I found a very cool virtual "how to" with the Fibonacci Sequence and how it appears in nature. http://www.mcs.surrey.ac.uk/Personal/R.Knott/Fibonacci/fibnat.html The Fibonacci Sequence is a famouse sequence where the last two numbers are added to get the next one. It starts out 1,1,2,3,5,8,13 and so on. This sequence can be found a lot in nature, two of them being the geneology of honey bees and rabbits.

For my research project I will research open source software. Open Source software is free software than is downloadable from the web that has been created by multiple coders. Anytime someone finds a way to improve the software, they can change the code. Open source is therefore more stable than Windows or Mac software. It must be run on a Unix operating system, such as Linux. Open source software is good for school computer labs to use because it is free, however not everyone wants to learn how to use Linux.
The purpose for doing my research on open source software is that I find it quite interesting. I did my research paper in 5412 on open source software, and I enjoyed very much. I also wanted to research it because I think it could be a great alternative to any computer lab in need of free software. I may come across it in my professional career.
The information above I remembered from 5412, and I got it out of a THE magazine.
I did some more research, and I learned that open source software is funded by the federal government. UNIX was the first operating system to be used on computers independent of software. The internet was largely developed using UNIX, on Sun computers.
A lot of coders are working with the software to combat Microsoft. The coders can make any improvement to the code they can, but everything must be made public. Open source is now making a move into the commercial world. They do it because they can work together and continually improve the software to try and end Microsoft's monopoly. - www.netaction.org/opensrc/future, opensource.org

6/21
2nd day of class.
I learned how to blog today. I also got to work with PowerPoint. I used it for the virtual field trip and teaching about geometric shapes.
6/22
3rd day of class.
We spent a lot of time today talking about PowerPoint, how to use it well and how it's been used poorly. I also learned how to customize the toolbar and how to use tabs.
6/23
4th day of class.
Today I gave my lesson with the help of PowerPoint. I thought it was very helpful to really understand how to use PowerPoint, and get feedback on how to improve. I also created a website at Teacherweb.com. It looks like to will be pretty interesting.
6/24
5th day of class.
I spent considerable time last night writing up my analysis. Today was pretty interesting because we got to create our own teacher web site. I am looking forward to working with dreamweaver.
